Smile Got another BP- long

I got another adult female BP, my boyfriend calls this one my "pity purchase" She was at a local pet store, the store owner said someone just brought the snake in and gave it to her. She was in a 10 gal aquarium full of crap and old sheds and this snake was so underweight it is just sad, of course the pet store owner promptly put her out on the sales floor with a 60.00 price tag Suprise! No one wants to purchase this pitiful looking snake and the snake won't eat, so I traded 80 mice for her. I got her home, gave her a good soak (she's dehydrated, and retaining eye caps) and let her get good and warm in her new home. She looked hungry today so I gave her a mouse and she was on it in a second! She ate 3 big breeder mice before I stopped giving them to her Since she hasn't ate in a while I didn't want to overload her. I am so happy!

I'm keeping her on newspaper for now and haven't seen any mites, didn't see any when I soaked her either. Would they show up in the water? She hasn't pooped yet (for obvious reasons) so I don't know about other parasites. I will post pics as soon as I get some.
She is such a sweetie for having been treated so badly and starved like she was. If you open her cage she is out and wanting to be held. I know....I know... snakes don't enjoy being handled.... I guess someone forgot to tell this sweet girl!

Smile Here's a pic

Here's a pic of my new BP, this is after the 3 breeder mice. You just can't tell how thin she is in the pic, but when you hold her and feel her sink in underneath you can tell.

Hope she continues to get healthier with your care ( sure she will with a person that actually gives a dam about her)

if she has mites you would have to look very close to see them. theyre about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. just tiny little black dots, if you see any take them off and get some NIX, dilute it to 1 bottle per gallon of water, and spray down the entire cage and the snake. once every 2 days for a week, then once a week after that for a while. that is ofcourse if he actually has them

Good luck,
Clarke

Maiden,
I have some "Reptile Relief" tick and mite spray. It's supposed to be pretty good stuff, I've never had to use it. Hope I don't have to on her.

Thanks everybody for the kind words, i will post pics again when she gets big and fat like a BP is supposed to be!

She's very pretty, and good for you for rescuing her. That's so sad when they get neglected like that, I'm very glad that she ate for you. Keep us updated on her progress.

If you plan on keeping her, I would use this 'underfed thing' to your advantage and get her on rats immediately. Also, why didn't you keep feeding her? If she took 3 why not keep going until she was full? Good luck.

I am a "pity purchaser" also! I found one at a local herp store that was really skinny (ribs showing) and had a bad RI. I traded a perfectly healthy, cooled adult female for her. Am I stupid? Yeah, probably. She has very light colors though, that I like better than the other one I traded her for. The RI cleared up quickly, and she is pounding 2 small rats a week and gaining mucho weight. Haven't given her an official name yet, she is still Noobie.
The pic is a little dark, but you can see how her pattern is outlined in white. Very pretty, and a great temperament.
