Nice snake, John. where did you get this guy? He looks like there's elapsoides influence for sure. There's a lot of work being done currently with the taxonomy problems associated with the coastal plains and the scarlet king. Is this a c.b. cross? Is it from a line of known coastals? I'd sure like to know more.

<drool> I had such a snake, but she unfortunately passed on. I found her curled up biting herself mid body.

Gorgeous - definately interested to know more about this one - always amazed me that this intergrade exists naturally with the parent species being so different in size. This one certainly looks scarlet - how big is it and how old? - very pretty snake.

This snake was wild caught in southeastern Virginia and is about 2 feet long.. Currently the snake is considered an intergrade between the eastern milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum) and the scarlet kingsnake (Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides). There are some that would like to classify this snake as a coastal plain milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum temporalis), however to date "temporalis" is not recognized as a valid subspecies.
