Smile Anyone else buy LOTR?

Did anyone else buy the Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring DVD? I watched it twice last night. Actually, one of my roommates got the DVD so I don't have to (just yet anyway). I picked up my Cali King and sat down to watch the movie...two of my favorite things...snakes and LOTR.

Is anyone here a big fan of the movie or better yet the books? I have read the books many times and have also read alot of the related works like; The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, History of Middle Earth Vol. 1, 2, 3 & 12 etc. When I'm online, I'm either reading/looking at snakes or LOTR, maybe I should broaden my horizons...maybe later.

I've read all the books, as well as the Hobbit and the Silmarillion...I found the Silmarillion to be fairly dry, so to speak...a little boring...The movie was awesome, but I didn't like how they built up Arwen's role for Liv Tyler...haven't bought the movie, but I hope to buy it at some point.

If I was director....

The whole damn movie would have been Liv Tyler! That's the hottest chick around man!

i absolutely love Tolkiens work. I have read many of his works and he is by far my favorite author. I read not too long ago that infact there has been one or two new short storys that were recently found and were soon to be published. I loved the movie i thought they did a fairly good job...some scenes were missing that i thought perhaps i would have included...a couple that would set up the whole hobbit and gandolf relationship a little better, but all and all i was very please. Awesome special effects, one of the best movies i have ever seen. s.t.

I'm glad there are some other Tolkien fans here...sometimes I just get the itch to talk about Tolkien. I agree that the movie is very, very well done. The behind the scenes stuff on the DVD just reinforces that. But the books are exponentially better than any movie could be.

Someone mentioned that they thought that Arwen's (Liv Tyler) role was expanded too much from the book. I agree, a little bit. Professor Tolkien mentioned in a letter that the story of Arwen & Aragorn, which apears in the apendicies, was important to the main story but just did not fit into the narative. Arwen should have a bigger role in the book so PJ gave her a bigger role in the movie. Although I don't think she needed to be doing things that other characters were doing in the book (riding with Frodo).

I'd better stop before I ramble on for pages & pages about my love of Tolkien's work.
