Not necessarily. She just needs to be mature. It isn't uncommon for some males to be larger than females when full grown. You may have an 8' male and maybe a female that only tops out at 6.5' or 7' but is 5 years old. Age and condition are the best guide to go on for breeding all reptiles IMHO. Some people breed females as early as their 3rd year, but the longer the wait, the better IMHO. I would say 4-5 years with good fat stores is a good place to start a female from.
