Males & spurs?

I went to petco and the "reptile guy" told me that one way to identify a male is that mature males have spurs on their legs? Is this true? I didn't think so, but I have never seen a mature male before, I have always been told that a male has 2 bulges at the base of it's tail?

I'd say that your "reptile guy" doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

The correct way to identify a male is through prominent pre-anal pores, and hemipenal bulges.

That's really weird. Because on chameleons the males will have something called a tarsal spur on the back of their hind feet. like a heel.

That is not true of leos at all. My guess would be that someone has misinformed him about sexing them. It's true that a male will have two bulges, though I have seen females with small ones as well.

No spurs on leopard males. But their distant cousins the banded geckos or Coleonyx have little spurs on their tails ! The males that is.
