This is a stretch seeing how you live in Canada. But it look s an awful lot like a snake thai i catch on a fairly regular basis called aDekay snake. A big Dekay snake would be about a ft long and they don't get much bigger.

Looks very much like a storeria ssp. to me.( Northern brown, DeKay's, red bellied snake.etc)Mark

My money is on N. Brown (Storeria dekai dekayi), because it two rows of spots along that light colored stripe on the back, which is typical of the N. Brown. Redbelly Snakes don't have that.

Its called a brown snake or dekays snake. I saw a few of these while I was camping at algonquin.
