This is how I feal about Retic's
I was bord and saw a few Retic discutions coming out and I love all large constrictors. So I figured that I would state the way I feal about them and see what ppl think about it.
And if you think I am here to tell you not to buy one think again. Because if you wanted to hear that broken record just asked a of the first year expert and they will be more then happy to sing you that song..LOL.
when you here that they are big nasty monsters and that you should never have them. That is the advice of a verry disrespectfull newbie "first year expert" that would not know what to do with them selves if they were ever lucky enugh to see these works of art.
To me they are the best snake out there and you dont just buy them and feed them like it was a corn snake.
you can realy apreciat Retic's.
I might just be insane but they have a that look.. it is hard to describe. A Retic has heart that drives them to be what they are large constrictors that are built to kill and have a superb hunting abilty, unlike todays Burm's that is nothing but a shadow of a large constrictor.
you will never break a retic's spirit if you get out of line or one day you don't repect them or are just plain stupid with them they they will alwas set you strait. they are the best looking snake out there.
Sure they are not for just anybody but when a person takes all the proper precautions and set them self up nicly and has a Set procedure they can pull it off. A persson that dose get a Retic will see a whole new world of herping. No other snake will ever match up to THERE retic I say this because I am fealing it now I have a 7 going on 8 foot male suluwasie retic and he is one of the Retic's that gives Retic's a BAD name but I love him and nothing compares to him. I would trade alot of my collection but I would never give up my Retic's to just any one I would have to be able to see him when ever I wanted to and he would never go to a hobiest I would rater give him to a zoo if I ever had to part with him.
Any way do any of you share my oppinion on these BIG beauty's
P.S
If you dont own any or havent owned any I would like hear what you think about them but PLZ don't try to tell me I am wrong cause till you have cared for them you realy have no clue.

I like the retic in the pic.
I do agree...retics are one snake to behold as the ultimate large constrctor to own. But that depends on your taste...some people prefer the afrocks or even consider a burm there ultimate snake.
I have heard scrubs surpass the retics when they watch you and seem to know things.
But back on topic...retics ROCK!

retics are awesome snakes.... giant powerful snakes, yet they're really intelligent.
I've had one for about a week and i loved the way they looked but i didn't like the way mine was. He was a bit too aggressive for me. I will definetly own one of these guys in the future, i just need some more time with snakes now, im still a newbie in this.
retics rock!

Well, do you want our opinions or not? Or do they have to be the same as your's because we are clueless and should just listen to what you say?
I'm not going to share my opinion because first I'm not 100% sure on what you're saying and second because you don't want it unless I agree 100% with you.

he just wants your opinion about them without saying that he is wrong i think its kinda clear
back to topic
I think they are amazing but they can become quite a handful when they reach full size . I own one right now and she is a mean girl . We can handle her but only when she feels like it otherwise she will try to scare us away and believe me it works lol :P But i think they are great anyway

Sorry Zoe maby It is not clear enugh MY bad PPl don't need to agree with me what I ment was that if they never worked with or owned one then they dont have the real experiance the real dish of hard core Retic in other words if there oppnion is just something they heard and have never rely experianced it there is no ground to say that I am wrong caus they just realy dont know. That is like me saying all hot keepers are freaks and they are crazy to be keeping vipers and stuff and I have never even sean a hot in real life let alone work with one.
In other words if a retic owner wants to debat me then I am all for it but I don't wana argue with some one that thinks they know what they are talking about.
sorry again I will be more straight forward next time.

Ah... I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that if we've never owned one dont bother giving our opinion, unless it's your opinion, because we don't know sh*t.
Zoe

in all honesty, rectics really intimidate me. I think it's just sheerly their size, and that a bite from them could send me to the hospital. Burms are one thing, since they seem to generally be more friendly than aggressive, but my stereotype of the rectic is of a huge, snappy dude.

Chondro,
I agree with you on the beauty and joy of owning and keeping retics. We have a nice(my opinion j/k) collection of them, and like you; wouldn't get rid of them for anything. I can't quit being awed at our stripes irredescence, and jampeas pattern; or our larger ones growth. But my wonder is based on past posts by you. You have in past posts, talked somewhat negative towards them? The topic mainly being about handling them. You stated that you consider them mostly a display animal. I am just wondering how you have this opinion of them , then post how marvelous they are. How can you be so into an animal that you do not consider ideal in your eyes? Nothing personal first off, just this post is somewhat odd.

They are a display Animal and shouyld not be handeld but to me My Royal Python is a display Animal.
I belive that reptiles are not dogs or cats and dont need me to internine with there lives other then keeping them clean, feeding them and giving fresh water.
But that being said I am also the kinda of guy that when I see a new snake I am like a 6 year old on x-mas morning I will handel it take a few Pic's and enjoy the breaf time I spend with it. But if you new me personaly it would be a bit easer to understand.
Like if were to visit your collection I would be all over the place and admiering your animals and acasionly asking for a few pic's.
But if you spend a week with me and My animals you will see that you would be aloud to handel anything you wanted to. But unles you ask I wont take the animal out because I dont like to caus needles stress to my animals.
You know as well as I do that a newbie LOVES to handel there snakes so I discurage PPl from geting Retic's for the perpose of handeling tham and try and "Tame" them.
If you want a big snake that is easy to work with get a BCI or Burm they are the shadows of a real snake.
But if you want a real snake that has a beauty that is
un-surpased and that will show you what they are made of and diplay there natural behaviore. Get a Retic.
But dont get a Retic to try and break it's spirit and make it like a Burm that lost almost all of there natural defencive instinc's If you want a snake like a Burm .Get a Burm
you see my point here
I picked my retic out if a set of 3 and he was the one that tried to tare my eye out so I baught him.
I am working to get a blood that I have sean that has the exact temperment and a Green Anaconda I hope it works out the way I want it too.
I hope this clearn things up a bit for you.

I gues I'll leave this one as a difference in opinions or outlooks i guess. One thing I will disagree with is calling a burm " a shadow of a real snake". My burms have as much personality as any other animal I own(including tics). Some with more or less of a degree. But otherwise I agree with some of your practices. But the subject was about a retics actions/personality, so we agree on that.

Oh every one looks at a difrent species with a diffrent eye.
I still love burms but I think I have seen and worked with to many to appreciat them like I do retic's.
That is why I only have one burm and 3 retic's.
