Freezer burn on a rat pink is bad, right? I was going to try one with my mexmex until I thawed it and had a good look. Can snakes handle a bit of fb? Or would it maybe spit it back out, which is the last thing I want?

And should I really bother with rat pinks, are mouse fuzzies/hoppers maybe better for him?

a little freezer burn wont hurt at all, and the prey item doesnt matter as long as it is of apropriate size, good luck bro and enjoy your little guy!

I've heard that kings will eat carion (sp?) in the wild. So, I doubt a little freezer burn would hurt. I THINK rats are actually better for them. They're supposed to have more calcium and protein, with less fat in them.

As Joe mentioned, a little frost bite is fine. Moderate to severe frost bitten items should not be fed though. I personally like to move my animals to rats as soon as they are able. Much less waste, and all the snakes seem to grow better.

Actually pinky rats have more fat and less calcium than an equivalently sized hopper mouse would. There bones are less developed and they have all that baby fat. Pinky rats definitely have much more overall meat than a hopper with very little waste... just about all of the pinky is used.

You could always feed both as long as ur snake doesnt take a liking to one or the other, its bound to provide a wider range of vits and mins. I also feed hampsters, gerbills and chicks to mine and they rarly turn down any.
What does freezer burn look like as I have never seen it? (apart from a blister on my arm once that i got from an aerosol can

Thanks, I'll give it a try next time (I didn't feed that last one, since I wanted an answer about the burn first). If I had a camera with macro on it, I'd take a pic for you, but it looks like white patches in random spots on the carcass. Rather unmistakable if you ever see it.
