i was checking temps last night, and noticed my hot side temp was 79f! day time temps are perfect, 90-93 hot, and 80-82 cool.
i was going to go and buy one of those red heat lamps for night time, and just trade lights when it turns night is this OK?. i already know what the answer probably be, i just wanted to be sure
thanx alot

Lights suck for snakes, day OR night. Especially Ball Pythons.

Why is that Jeff? I use lights and my BP's are fine...not dried out, perfect temps..........In my personal opinon snakehunter, use the light, but they can still see red lights, atleast mine react to red lights. They go up and investigate the spot the lamp hangs over. So I just took the bulb out.

The ones I use give off a pale orange light, not even like a human night light. I have never had a problem with drying out either, my BP'sshed fine. However, I would be interested for Jeff to elaborate, as I know he has a ton of experience, and I enjoy learing what he knows. Let us know what you use, I'm guessing CHE's........lol.

Lights are unnecessary for ball pythons. Sure, you can use one, just like you could put a diving board on the side of it's water bowl, but why?. Your nighttime temps are fine. I would leave them the way they are.

I was to understand that snakes are unable to see the red of these heat lamps. Was I misinformed?
