My small male BCI is having a helluva time shedding (his first shed in my care). I've been soaking him on a towel for a couple hours daily for about tree days, and gently removing what will come off, but it doesn't seem to be going very well.
Use spring water. The chlorine in tap water can dry them up. Only costs about 55 cents (US) at Walmart for a gallon of cheap spring water that does the trick nicely. It's all I use on for my snakes. I usually spray them down once a week or so and more frequently when they're getting ready to shed. I also use it as their drinking/soaking water.
when it's my snakes time to shed..i normally put the heating pad underneath his/her waterbowl so that the water would humidify..i usually do this after his/her eyes clears up..
they're kept in a sterilite so it holds up the humidity..and i've never had a problem with any of my snakes when it's shedding time for them..all in one piece..with little rips...
I don't have problems with any of my snakes usually, but this is his first shed (in my care) and I think poor humidity in the past is catching up to him.
Anyway, I soaked him again today, most of it is gone!
Instead of soaking in a towel fill a tub with a lid with enough water to cover the boa' s back. Warm water and put the boa inside and put lid on tub. Leave boa there for 20 - 30 minutes. after get boa out and hold boa firmly with very little pressure let boa squirm out of your hands and repeat a few times till boa sheds completely. I am assuming you went through shed with it but not a complete shed this system works.
