Question What am I?

Trick question.

I find anti-hybriders funny. Nothing wrong with being anti-hybrid in my opinion. I'm pro-colubrid hybrids, anti-boid hybrids. But to debate the "badness" of it, changes nothing really.

We can debate on and on about hybrids, but the fact is they are here, they aren't going away, you can't outlaw it. You can only buy from people you trust. It's just like with hets and poss hets, people out there want to screw you. Don't let it happen, simple as that.

Actually this post is NOT to start a debate b/c I think that's pointless, but to show case an interesting snake I purchased a few days ago.

I find it interesting how both the parent species are represented in this animal. Any guesses as to what the two species are??

Vanan keeps thinking it's a situla. I only wish!!

Hi Katt,

I'm a vehement anti-hybrid guy, but like you said, we could debate that 'til doomsday, couldn't we? lol!

Well...I'm going to guess and say Pituophis mixed with some type of N.A. rat snake???
To me, the dorsal pattern seems quite reminiscent of a Bull or Gopher snake.

Interesting...

Cheers!

Don't they call it a "Turbo Corn", or something like that?

Yup, it's a gophercorn.

This guy, I believe was produced by Walter P. The neat thing about this snake is that, the pattern is corn like, with some red colour, but it has the rough texture of a bit, with the slight "mean" look to the face due to a tiny eye ridge.

Looking at it makes me feel funny b/c it is neither Pit nor corn. It's a 50/50 cross, I don't believe in any other crosses.

He's a year old, and quite big, I see why they are called "Turbo corns".

VERY nice! Have you seen the albino Turbo's? They are really awesome. I've got the same attitude towards hybrids as you do Katt.

I find blatant contradictions funny... Why and how can you be pro-colubrid and anti-boid hybrid at the same time? Still both are hybrids. I'm confounded by this.

That's an interesting looking hybrid. Since they have their own common name, Turbo Corn, does mean that they're common (well, relatively, for a hybrid)? The only hybrid I've seen with my own eyes was a rat x something or other, and it was freakin ugly, all muddy washed out colours. That one actually looks nice.

does it matter which parent is which species? Is a pit maleX corn fem a turbo corn but a corn male and a pit female a ?pit? What about jungles, does mother species make a difference? I had thought about trying subocXcorn but not cornXpit. Not much experience on hybrid nomenclature but know in the mammal world parent gender makes a difference.

I'm glad this amuses you. People are people and thus are finicky. I don't like boid hybrids, especially anything within the Boa constrictor complex.

The name turbo corn was coined by Ben Siegel, but his were 25% corn, as opposed to this 50/50 cross.

Just to clarify all bull snakes are gopher snakes, but not all gophers are bulls.
