Exclamation what is it

my ex friend owns a tortoise, which if werent so tame i woul release. he keeps it out side, feeds it every now and then, and has this weird shell disorder. it looks like some on took an ice pick and gouged some signficant holes in his shell. inside of these holes is a hard white substance. he says its shedding, but its had this for years! anyone know what it is?

most likely shell rot. If he cares about it he should take it to the vet or buy betadine or something to heal the wound. Im not sure bout the betadine but thats hwat they told me to do when my tortoises shell was cracked. He should ge it checked out before it gets bad.

Hope it does fine.

If you are not talking to him why don't you call someone and report an " animal abuse" because that is what it is if it has been there for years......unless it is just some sort of disfigurement...which I doubt...goodluck, I wish I could have helped more!
