I kept a 5' red tail boa in mine. She seemed a little crowded when she curled up in the corners though. But I just put her in a 6x2x3 cage that I built so she is more comfortable.
IMHO that is too shallow depthwise to keep anything medium or large sized in. Also, unless your room is the adequate ambient temp and humidity, the tank is better left to fish. They do not hold heat or humidity making them unsuitable for most species.
55g are Ok but only if you turn it on it's side and put some sort of front slider on...gives lots more surface area...remember it's the surface area not height that is inportant for snakes
