4x2x2 cage.......135$ Details inside

Thought everyone might like to see a cheap (cheaper than bought cages anyway) cage design. Here's a list of materials and costs associated.

Qty Description Cost

1 49 x 97 x 5/8 sheet of white melamine $35

1 12 x 8 x 3/4 sheet of melamine $10

16ft 1 x 2 Oak $24

1 Box of #6x1 5/8 inch drywall screws $4

1 24 x 48 x .236 clear plexiglass $30

1 18" Direct wire fluorescent light $15

1 8ft 3 wire power cord for light $2

2pk 1 1/2 inch narrow utility hinges $3

2 2" positive lock hook and eye latches $3

2 Tubes of 100% pure silicone sealant $5

2pk #6 x 2" wood screws $3

1pk #8 x 1/2" wood screws $1

4 1/4" x 1" flat round washers $.50

That's it. All of that turns into this with a little elbow grease.

If anyone has any questions about how to build let me know I can draw up some plans for it.

Enjoy,
Will

This guy is going in there. Our circleback/laddertail BCI. We'll also be placing a 1' x 2' radiant heat panel in there for heating it will be on a helix DBS1000 system Here's a few pics of the guy going in there.

Awesome cage, and even more awesome snake. I like the idea of the shelf. I have a few snakes that would LOVE that.

Nice cage MacGyver. Mine's kinda similar except that instead of a hinged door I put in sliding glass doors with a jewelry case lock.
My monitor enjoys the shelf...it gives her an opportunity to climb as well as be closer to the heat.
Are you going to put any artificial foliage or log in it?
The melamine looks like a nice easy to clean surface

Crazyboy, It's a fluorescent light it puts out very little heat. not enough to require a cage around it at all.

Mr.Lizard I'm planning on some stuff in there to climb on etc. Here's a pic of an identical cage that I built for our other BCI this one will be pretty much the same as far as hides and stuff.

awesome cages. Do the snakes actually use the shelf? I am about to build some cages, and if you have found that your snakes enjoy the shelves, I may try to add some to my enclosures.

Yep our other BCI that is already in an identical cage uses the shelf all the time. The shelf provides a great basking area with the 1x2 radiant heat panel and a helix i have a basking spot on the shelf at about 87 degrees and the rest of the cage is cooler.
