Monitor Relocation : Ryan's close call

Again, I nearly severely injured myself while moving the water monitor.

We cleared out a storage room so we could move the panels to their location in our basement. As I was coming out of the room, I broke through the concrete, into a cistern 5 feet deep.

My lightning quick reflexes allowed me to grab onto the wall and shelving, and stop myself from falling into really old timbers and concrete.

But all 450 lbs of cage has been reasembled in our basement.

We removed the bathtub from from the cage, and right now have a 60 gallon tub, half full - as his temporary water. I am going to get a custom made tub, put on a ledge (he won't drag as many leaves or bark into the water) with drain plumbed in. The space below the tub and ledge will act as a hide, we can fill it with leaves.

Into the crocodile monitor cage at the zoo, we are going to plumb in floor drains, so we can hose the cage down. Sheila needs to run to the city to pick up glass. Sheila has a really good idea for the glass for the crocodile monitors cage, and we have found some for one cage - but we just need to find some like it for the second enclosure.

We are also looking for nice trees and branches for the croc cages. They are being built side by side - so we will be planning a trap door on a pully, so we can make it a common cage for breeding, or coral 2 into one cage for cleaning and cage maintenance of the other cage.

We have pictures of the water monitor's cage. He is now in it, but I won't be bothering him out tonight - he's had a day in a pillow case, and is a bit grumpy since we caught him the other day. I will let him cruise his cage, all clean and redecorated until he settles in before taking picutres of him.

Damn Ryan do you have Insurance? Be careful my friend or you will miss your favourite weekend of the year! The crocs aim sending you are real genital, they will let you enter there cage and clean no problem, no need to worry about being attacked what so ever, you really need to set the female up good, she is obviously gravid again, aim starting to be concerned about shipping, we need to act fast or we will have to wait till she lays her clutch. This is bad I wasn’t expecting her to double clutch as she’s a WC from 12 months ago. They usually take a few years to cycle after import, guess my husbandry is improving.
