Positives are it looks good, it's cheap, it's easy to spot clean, it holds humidity well. I can't think of any negatives at the moment.

Oh yeah I forgot. If your in New England you should stock up on it now. Alot of places don't carry it in winter. I'm lucky here in Florida it's available all year round.

Brian,
You shouldn't have a problem finding some either pre-packaged or in bulk at any greenhouse type facility. It also comes in many variants (gold, red, brown, with dirt, etc.).
As previously mentioned, it can be very difficult to find up here in the winter, but I imagine most places will be trying to clear out their stock about this time of year.

I haven't managed to find it at a home depot, I know port credit pets and reptilia carry it.
