NEAT! I love flaring pictures. I've never seen it in person before though. Maybe I should get Ryan and Sheila to provoke theirs at the upcoming Calgary show.

LOL... I just noticed his name. I assume you have another snake named Rosencrantz?

Hey Het!
He wasn't being aggressive, just a little teretorial. LdyDrgn was just in his space a bit and he was just telling her how he feels about that. I can handle him with no problems though.
Invictus, flaring is really kool to see in person... he always reminds me of a Cobra... only sidways and not deadly. ;-)
And we do have a Rosencrantz... he is a corn snake. Unfortunately he is AWOL at the moment. Darned escape artists.

Wowee! He is absolutely spectacular.
I love his enclosure. He's definitely got a good home with people dedicated to his well-being, and it shows.
Question; Does he ever twitch his head ever so slightly at you when you handle him? It's sort of a slight "nodding" motion accompanied by the extended tongue flick. My female does this, but my male does not. Just curious.
Thanks for sharing the pics, guys!
Simon

hmmm, would have to ask Donnie. He is the one that handles him while I clean. We will have him out tonight for measuring... I'll ask him to keep an eye out for that, hehehehe

Invictus, you are welcome to come and hold the spilotes for a 'flaring' at the Calgary show. It is an impressive sight, and she is just as strong as the taiwan beauty, only 2 feet of her is tail, and she lashes it to you and then stretches out 6 feet and begins the flaring, even more impressive is having the pair flare up at one another when they see each other. An exhilarating experience in person, come and see it for yourself

Simon,
I've read that they use the head bobbing to triangulate the exact distance of the object that they are planning to strike at.

Actually, she has never bitten us. She has opened her mouth, but never struck or bitten. The elaphe carinata, however, will also be on display, and she does take a jab now and then.
Walter is the only one who can hold the carinata, and the anaconda, too.
