Power Feeding

I feed my 4 foot 4 month burm 1 small rat every 4-5 days, now is this powerfeeding? I was told that I was when I went to the store to pic up some rats, yet others tell me different. My theory is that these snakes grow faster and greater therefore needing more food than other snakes that you would feed once a week. Besides my snake is looking for food again after 2 days from feeding. Am I wrong or should I continue this practice of feeding?

Thanks for listening!

I do the exact same thing with my burm this will last feor a few monts to a year I normaly stop feeding every 3-4 days after they hit the 8-10 foot mark cause that is when they slow there groth rate down and then when they get 15 feet that is when I start it up again but it is not like 3-4 days it is just realy big pray items and maby more then one after they get 20 feet I give them there regular diet to keep them healthy and well feed I say as long as they eat feed them but that just might be me.

You should move your burm up to med rats. It probably needs a bigger prey item, and I would feed no closer than 5 days.

I agree. I would move up to a bigger prey item and wouldn't feed it any closer than five days.

I feed my three foot burm a larger small rat every 7 days. He looks for another rat 10 minutes after he eats the first one.

IT's pretty much each owners call. You can feed it as often as you think is necessary. If you have the means to house and afford the feed bill, feed it more often if needed. If not feed it on a maintenance diet. But I agree with the others, as they get larger, past 12' or so; mine seem to do well on an evry 12-14 day schedule. With a nice adequate prey item. You'll figure out what works for you. I don't call it powerfeeding unless your feeding it as much as it will eat all the time. Which doesn't make sense any way. IMHO

I feal that power feeding is a term used verry loosly if you feed your snake 4 larg rats a week and your snake ate every rat individualy meaning you heald it up it struck and constricted and swallowed every time you are not power feeding it would be a good time to comsider small rabits but that is the worst of it.

now if you are fooling your snake buy feeding it one rats and then placing another dead one in its mouth B4 it can fully close it forsing it to countinue the swallowing proces that is what I consider power feeding.

at this time we can relat our selves to the snake we eat 7 hambergers and we are full just cause some one puts one more on our plate we will not eat it caus we are full snakes are a bit similare give them 2 rats and if they are full they will not eat a third somtimes if you see them have a nice big meal you can skip the next week just to condition them a bit no real harm done.
