At the beginning of the summer my friend was like you should get a reptile...i was like meh i dont think its my thing.......but after a few days i thought about it. Cause when i was a child i wanted a chameleon sooooo bad, but i was still to little to be responsable, but now that im going to be 15 in 3 months, i thought i might be able to handle it.
So one of my friend showed me this site(ssnakess), and told me all about it,so i signed up. I looked at the breeding section, and saw all the pplz that were breeding them, my friend also said u should breed this and that, i was like hey that might be a good idea. So then i learn all about there breeding habit and wanted to breed chameleons.
About 2 weeks ago i noticed something, it was that a lot of them dont even think about breeding them, they find more info about it and just get one for a pet, and they didnt think about breeding, i thought of breeding to make profit. But i understand that a lot of people just dont do it for profit, they do it cause they enjoy it, not to make money, some breed just to keep them. But now i understand, and im not gonna be planning to breed them untill i think im ready to handle 30 babys. So i learned a lesson here. And i want to thanks everyone, and my friend that showed me this site. i learned a lot here. and im hoping to find a chameleon this sunday to take hope wish me luck, thanks for reading

First off... good luck on Sunday, I'm sure you'll find a cute little chameleon there. You have been reading caresheets and asking good questions on the forums so I think you are ready for your new baby. I'm still not sure if I'm going to the show or not, but look around for me, I'd like to see your new lizard.

Also, good call on the breeding idea. Get a male and learn how to care and handle them for a few years before you launch into a breeding project. Enjoy him. Love him. Even though you know a lot right now, you will learn so much more after you've got one in your possession. Trust me. And as for a profit? I'm making one? Not at this point and it will take me many, many more years before I do on any chameleon projects I take on. I'll spend more on food then I'll make selling them. Ah well. Please, I'm not saying that to disuade you from doing any breeding in the future, it's just not as easy as you may think.

Breeding chameleons is fairly easy if you do it right, and most people do it to support their hobby. That's one of the top reasons I love this hobby, because it's self supporting if you can do it right.

dunno bout the whole breeding thing but i wish you the best of luck with your very first reptile. Chameleons look great, never owned one myself, but ive always wanted to. Maybe in the future but fornow im ok with what i have. If you decide to breed yours good luck with that whole project as well and maybe ill bump into you at the show..im going to

it's hard to make profit breeding any herp, really. By the time you buy the breeding pair, proper enclosures, food for adults and hatchlings, incubator (home-made or otherwise), etc. etc...you will be lucky if you make back the money you already spent.

You wont have any problems finding a chameleon at a show, they are quite popular. I am considering getting some in the future when I move into my basement where there is more room lol. Just make sure you have the cage and everything it needs waiting for it at home. What size cage do you plan of having? What type of chameleon?

uhh i already got the cage and everything at the begining of august lol i bulit it myself, and its really big, uhhhh im not sure about the measurements, but its big enough, i have a ficus tree in there right now, planning to get potho(spelling) soon, and im hoping to get a panther, not sure what type

good luck on finding a lil' one for yourself. As far as breeding, good move to wait, as for profit lol, I'm lucky to make back 1/2 my near $1000USD yearly feeding bills.

Wow, but im glad that i wrote this cause, everyone here can learn what ive been through, cause if i did start to breed them i would have got into a big mess. hope people will learn from my mistake

Hey Meow!

I'm not quite sure how to word this post, but I think you have a marvelous attitude! :thumbsup: You've read a lot of information in this thread and other threads in this forum and have learned from it. A lot of us, myself included, kind of put your breeding idea down, or said to wait a bit anyways. For myself, I'm breeding my animals because I enjoy working with the various species, and I like to watch and learn everything I can about chameleons. It's time consuming... you would not believe the hours I put in everyday with my collection. You would also be shocked at the money I spend keeping my animals healthy and thriving. It's nuts! As I said previously, I'm not trying to stop you from breeding chameleons, because it IS fun, just don't think you will retire by the age of 20 doing it! LOL!

Anyways, I believe Arboreal Exotics will be at the show this Sunday, and she has the most awesome Panther Chameleons. I know a few people who have bought her animals and I have not heard anything bad about them. So definately stop by Connie's table and I don't think you will be disappointed.
