hybrids

why do some not like hybrids, is it that it is like playing god, or is it a genetic thing whats the deal? the way i see it, its kinda cool to have unusual patterns, and new morphs, just my opinion, im not a hot shot or breeder or any thing thanx

I like most people dont like it because it screws up the gentics we have in captivity be cause eventually someone will breed that hybrid to a normal then those offspring to a normal till all the normals are hybridized and we have no "PURE" animals left too bad its been done so many times already

Yup.....like Bryce said. Once a species is hybridized the gene pool will be forever contaminated (unless these hybrids are infertile, or never bred, but if you sell them its out of your hands and someone will most likely try to breed one). Take burmese pythons and Indian pythons... you will not find a single 100% pure bloodline becasue those two subspecies have been hybridized to death. Look at the red wolf as well......its completely extinct in its pure form due to hybridization with coyotes. Natural hybrids are fine, if it occurs in nature then its almost arrogant to say it shouldn't be done in captivity. We aren't better than a billion years of evolution, nature knows how it works, so we should learn from it. Manmade creations are no good... if you were a purist and were sold a hybridized specimen labelled as "pure" and put it in to your projects... how awful would that be? You would be producing so-called purebreds that are really hybrids. No good.

Cool question it usually cares serious pros/cons. But really everything on this planet comes from some sort of hybrid in 1 way or another.

I like some hybrids, although when it came to my king dobermanns i paid for the purest blood possible....ouch.

i say they were made how they werefor a reason if you wnat differant colors or patterns get differant snakes or lizards

Hybrids arethe worst thing to happen to this hobby...Sure they may look nice but no matter how many times you out cross that animals it will never be pure. Then some were down the line one one will pass it off as pure blood.

It also makes it hard when it comes to captive propagation of endangered species!

Ive also read that any hybrids they find are either altered (adults)
or destroyed (pups). Just from what I've read.. Where'd you find this information at? I'm seriously interested in it.

Hybrids are not the worst thing to hit the hobby. Misrepresentation by dishonest sellers are the worst thing.

King Dobermanns are a myth, I'd find the breeder who sold you a "king" and teach them a lesson about misrepresentation!

I have to agree with Katt, besides if there is anyone who owns a purebred dog here, they all came from hybrids. Just a thought!

i am kinda wishy washy on hybrids at this time, i do currently own 2 hybrids, but they are the same speces, just diffrent sub. i realy have nothing aganst breeding hybrids as long as it dosent get out of hand, i will say i am not so big on breeding anamals that are very diffrent I.E Blood X Ball. also i am shure some people a wile ago said "I HATE MORPHS! they screw up pure bloodlines and down the line we wont ever have a 100% pure normal anymore" but i dont see anyone bitching about that? (just something i thought i would throw out for argument sake)

If it happens in the wild, in my mind it's okay. If it doesn't, then it isn't right, but it isn't wrong. In fact, if probably broadens the genetic pool. If they are misrepresented, it's not the hybrid's fault. A pure animal can be misrepresented, too.

I think you will find that hybrids will always have some one willing to pay top dollar for them. I don't have a problem with them personally

I'll play devil's advocate for a second here: how is producing hybrids really any different from producing albinos (used as an example)?? Both are statistically unlikely to occur in nature. Through selective breeding is the handler not "playing god."

Just a thought, I personally don't like hybrids, but to each their own.
