Question Crestie questions =D

HI all! I'm looking around trying to decide what kind of reptile to get next and I was wondering the general setup for a crestie. Heat, light etc. Thanks! =D

hey Denise!

Cresties are arboreal, and need height in an enclosure, lots of stuff to climb...a ten gal is ok for babies, but for adults, a 20 gal can house 1.2 ......if you're using aquariums...

They don't need ANY heat at all, the temp can range be 72-78, I think....They really can't take the higher temps like other geckos , but can withstand the cooler ones.

They don't really need any light, any natural light is good enough, but I have a uvb light anyway.

I have real plants (pothos) in my enclosure, and lots of hides and fake hanging plants (the suction cup ones, they LOVE these)

Hope this helped

Hi, Mango, i am getting mine delivered thru the mail on thursday, but i think Cresties are just perfect. so cool looking, beautiful eyes, any color is nice, they have the cool sticky pads, and even have a prehensile tail with it's own sticky pad. they jump from one side of the tank to another, and they can vocalize. and they are easy to keep if you keep the temps low enough, and the humidity high. Good luck deciding. Colleen

Even though they don't require any added heat sources...They will benefit from A low wattage bulb close to a perch for basking..Plus,This way you won't effect the overall temperature of the cage and they will have a hot spot ..

Pick up the reptiles annual magazine, they have a great article on Crested Geckos. It pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Good Luck

Um any type of heat you add to a tank will make the temp go up.

A hot spot is not needed. They will do fine without ANY additional heat.

Oh and Heather,it is spelt..aboreal. :P

Silly :| I DID spell it right. Way to read, no-read. :P

I agree with Aaron, cresties definately DON"T need a hot spot, or any type of basking spot .....:S

*expects to see a lot of fried little cresties in the near future*
