Coral Albino updated pic.

This guy is getting pinker everyday.



I managed to get him to pose right after he shed. This guy was the pic of the litter in my opinion anyway. He was produced from a coral albino mother bred to a normal albino father. This is a littermate to Hercules and Medusa that Tony has been posting pics off. The coral albinos tend to keep their coloration into adulthood with some animals being almost solid pink as adults. I beleive this mutation to be the pastel gene incorporated into the albino. As pastels mature they get an increase in pink coloration.

One question though, what are the genetics behind the coral albino? Is it a different strain of albino? From your post, I assume it's Kahl line but is it simply albino or does it have hypo genes as well?

I'm trying to understand the difference between a sunglow and coral albino as both look similar to me. There are very few pics of adults out there so it is difficult for me to really tell between the two.

Tony: My albinos are doing good! I haven't taken new pics in quite some time and am due!!! My female has grown quite a bit in the fast few months and the male is starting to. He just finished a deworming treatment a few weeks ago and is just starting to really put some meat on him.

Coral Albinos are Kahl strain and the name was coined by Pete Kahl as well (I think anyway) It was used to descride the albinos that retained or had alot more pink in them. They do not carry the hypo gene but like I said I beleive them to be pastel albinos. Jeff Ronne has similar albino boas that he calls pastel albinos. CHeck out there sites as they have some very good pics of this trait.

The pastel trait is a line bred possibly co dominant trait that makes the boa very clean with reduced black and increased pink coloration. Some pastel boas can be screaming pink so when you get the same gene in an albino snake the boa gets very pink as well. I have seen pics of the corals where their heads are almost purple.

Sunglows are albinos with the salmon gene and they tend to be very bright white with intense red saddles and markings versus being pink all over. I was hoping for sunglows this year as I bred my Salmon DH for Sunglow female to one of my albino males but I think she reabsorbed and no babies. The pair may have been too young this season but breeding season is almost here again. LOL
