Update on "Enough to make you sick!"
Today in the Halifax Daily News there is a new article on the proposed banning of snakes in Halifax. I cannot make a direct link to it and I am not going to copy the article here on the off chance that copyright restrictions might bite me in the a**.
But in order to get to it you should go to The Halifax Daily News and click on the "News" link on the left hand side. Then from the box select the title that reads "Fanciers fear snake escapes will cause a".
I know this is a bit of a hassle to get to it and I am sorry for that.
Matt

Damn the government and their ignorance. If they so much as THINK about banning snakes in Alberta I will cause such a big stink that they wish they didn't even have such a stupid thought in their pea-brains.

That's crap. So sad that it only takes but a handful of irresponssible "herpers" to instigate bylaws like that... all the while you have unimaginable amounts of irresponsible cat owners.....look at all the strays! And all they do is set up an SPCA Although it would be very hard to pin lost snakes on people, and in likely msot would get away with it, I still think the law would be a good way to go. I wish they would look at it unbiased for one second and stop penalizing a whole community of repsonsible animals that are helping to rpeserve these animals, some of which are on the verge on extinction in the wild, just because there are a few morons out there that are irresponsible
TheRedDragon,
There are already a lot of snakes and other herps banned in Alberta... you guys have all sorts of crazy law out there

Make sure you write the paper! Its your local paper so they will most likely post your letter in editorials over people from out of province. I would be writing my email to them for the editorial page like right now.

There are people who are afraid of dogs and people who have phobias and fears about birds, but I don't think you'll ever hear of a proposed ban on those animals. I have yet to hear of a person who is knowledgeable about herps calling for a ban. By many people's standards they aren't appealing at all but that doesn't give anyone the right to forbid others to own them. This lady (and most others in favor of such laws) is speaking in ignorance. I would like to know her exact reasons for banning them. Most are not harmful to humans or other pets (I've heard of far more dog attacks on humans than snake attacks) there is little risk of disease, they don't poop on the sidewalk or in peoples gardens, and they are silent. I think she is speaking out of fear and therefore shouldn't say anything until she educates herself. If you are going to have such strong opinions, you need to back them up with facts.

I do agree that it is ridiculas that herps should be banned because of 1 irresponsible person. Maybe more than a few people should wright the paper....maybe including a few herpers that don't really live in that area???? And maybe wright the news paper and tell them that if ONE exotic animal is banned then ALL exotic animals should be banned......like if people own cockatiels and cockatoo's and McCaws, and generaly any bird like that, they are all "exotic" because they are not from your area (I don't think, so if I'm wrong I'm sorry) aren't any animal thats from another country exotic? Wouldn't an animal from the U.S or Canada be considered exotic over in austraila or china???? Personaly I think so.......but maybe not everyone does!
