Ok, I remember!(mice and wheels??)
For those who breed mice, do you bother to put a wheel in with your mice? Is it good to give them something else to occupy themselves with besides you know  or is this just a waste of energy and money (for the wheels) ?

We used to before we switched from cages to tanks. they were quite entertaining.

I've never provided any of my mice with wheels. I find they take up too much space. One thing to watch though is that the babies don't get injured in the wheel.

i don't breed mice but i have been to a rat facility (bebo's) and he doesn't use wheels. but one thing that i though was great idea is that he used horse troughs and built lids into the top i though it was realy cool cuz it gave the rats alot of room to move around and it was probly cheap to make/buy.

We provided wheels for each tub of mice and found they really used them a lot. They are definately additional cost and even more for the time it takes to washe them every week, because the mice seem to urinate a lot when they are running (marking their trails). Despite the cost, I figured they were worth it - but I spoil everybody,

The reason for that is that adult rats don't use wheels

I have a wheel in my mice tank. They love to go on it and I really don't see how a baby can get hurt on it? when they are big enough to move around, they are big enough to go on it.

Yes,but there legs and tails can get caught inbetween the bars, although I have never experianced this.

Just because they are big enough to move does not eman they are big enough to go on a wheel. My mice are running around before they even open their eyes. I've also seen mother mice build nests under the wheel before. Either of those situations can injure, possibly fatally, baby mice.
