BWSmith, I have not seen anything "official" about corn snakes being re-classified. Do you have any scientific sources on this? I'd be most interested in reading about the reasons behind the re-classification.

Let me see if I can track it down. According to the paper, all north American Elaphe have been redefined as Pantherophis. In another paper, Asian Elaphe have been redefined as Coelognathus. I have not seen the second paper, but all of the most recent studies that I have seen pre-release and post release have refered to "ratsnakes" with these 2 new genuses. Maybe i'll just shoot an email to Wolfgang Wuster. He prolly wrote it LOL

I might be wrong but...I did some reading when I heard of the new name for corn snakes. What I concluded (from the research) was that they added a new clasification of corn/rat snake rather than replace Elaphe.

Vowels are always pronounced in latin. There are no silent letters.
