Yes!!!!! My Snake Is The Illest!!!!

Ok, sorry for sounding so doofy, but my ball has been eating live mice since I got him 6 years ago. Today I went to the Petco by me and they had small frozen rats in. So I bought one, and I bought a live mouse. I ran the bag the rat was in under hot water until warm and thawed. Then I rubbed the mouse on the thawed rat. I held the rat in the tank myself, but had on super heavy duty gardening gloves on. At first the snake seemed really confused. I held the rat by his butt, and shook his head around a little, and the snake snatched him right from my hand.
He held his contriction on the rat for a really long time though which was odd.

My GF said if he eats the thawed rat, I had to let the mouse go. So now there is a white mouse running loose in the woods behind my house Oh well. I was just really excited he took it so easily (knock on wood) I just hope I can make a habit of this.

Glad to hear he is now eating f/t rats!

Just one thing, though, buy some hemostats. Heavy gardening gloves may protect YOU, but they sure as heck don't protect your snake. If your snake had bitten the glove, his teeth could easily have gotten stuck and broken. Now because the gloves arent hot, he probably wouldnt bite them, but we all know that BPs dont have the best aim of the animal kingdom! :P

You can even use tongs from the grocery store - thats what I use. They aren't as good, but they do the trick.

Zoe

Congrats again - a good step forward- to rats and f/t in one step!

Awesome! Great to be on f/t. I also second Zoe's comment about tongs. I use cheap ones I got for a dollar at Wal-Mart...they're no hemostats, but I can't get bitten...
