Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this (pic)
OK, this isnt my tank. Its another members here. I have been trying to contact him to figure out how this was done, but have not gotten a reply.
I am building something similar to this for my ball python. The question is about the lights. I know the fixtures and wiring can be done easily enough. My question is about the cage/protection around the lights. I dont want my snake to burn himself. What is this made from? Is this some sort of premade cage you can buy? does it get hot? will it prevent the animal from burning himself?
Any advice you can give me on how to have the lights inside the tank, and have them protected to prevent the animal from burning himself would be greatly appreciated.

You could make something like that out of hardware cloth and screws. I dont believe its a premade deal. Iam sure if you went to a hardware store however, you may find something similar to prevent objects from destroying light bulbs.

That cage actually looks like it was made out of flooring. Neat idea.
Good questions about the vents too... I don't see ANY.
stkkts - To answer your question, I have a 100 watt heat bulb warming up my BCC. It sits on steel mesh. Though the mesh does heat up, it doesn't heat up nearly enough to cause a burn. I can still touch it with my hand, even though the basking area as a result of the heat lamp is ~90F. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

what type of wood does that look like? it looks...expensive! haha. really cool setup though. Invictus, were you saying the bottom of the viv is linoleum (sp?)? that would be a good idea so long as it's sealed.. see, if the vents were on top, then how are the bottome enclosures vented? I wonder...

you can make the covers out of this hard screen. you can buy it at a local home depo or something and bend it to fit and then screw it on there.

Here's you answer my friend http://www.bigappleherp.com/Reptile_...ge_264500.html
It would be cheaper to make them yourself though.
To me it looks like the vents are on the left and right parallel to the bottom hinges of the door.
