Must be something in the air....

My vet friends work at such a huge clinic that they see conspecific aggression cases all the time, but this past Saturday took the cake! Sixteen females, from 14 different households, were all so badly wounded by a female cagemate that they required surgical wound repair.

Mark asked me did I have room to rehab all of them and it breaks my heart that I could only take in the 2 worst cases. Unfortunately, I'm afraid neither girl will do well. One has multiple skull fractures and the other has a windpipe so torn up that it's likely to scar badly and significantly impair her breathing. I dread the fact that both girls might end up being euthanized.

Gypsy died today. She was the girl with 4 skull fractures. She kept throwing seizures and seizure meds don't work particularly well on reptiles because their metabolic rate is too slow. The liver gets hammered with the stuff long before there's enough active med in the bloodstream to actually get to the brain.

So we treated with magnesium sulfate which was just not strong enough.

I'm so sorry you lost her eyespy... a dragon having seizures(or any animal for the matter) is a horrible thing to watch. I know she is looking down on you, thanking you for trying to help though. Hows the other girl?

The other girl Rosemary is still touch and go. She's on a nasotracheal tube with constant air pressure to try and keep her trachea from scarring down too much and she's really very stressed out from it all. We have to feed her through a stomach tube because she just won't eat at all on her own and I'm afraid the stress alone will kill her. Her blood oxygen saturation is hovering at about 85-87% which won't kill her but might be low enough to cause some brain damage. I'm still very afraid for her.
