Herp "Quirks"

Hey all,

Just wondering if your herps have any unusual or unique quirks. Something that sets them apart from others of their species. I'll start with mine.

Morpheus, the "Gentle Giant" corn snake has one quirk just in his size alone - 6 feet, and he appears to still be growing. But the biggest quirk with my big guy is that he never constricts his prey! It's almost like he knows that it's already dead. He just grabs it, and starts swallowing.

Also, he goes out of his way for human contact even while he is feeding. It's really unebelievable. He's the most gentle snake I've ever seen in my life.

My BCC also has a weird trait in that he doesn't seem to be the least bit interested in heat. He spends most of his time in the cool end of the viv, which is usually around 77 degrees. I even tried giving him a hide on the warm end, and he wanted nothing to do with it.

So, tell me all.. what weird traits do your herps have?

Tonni (my burmese python) is a fan of the cool end too. i though that maby the temps are too hot so i bought a digital thermometer and they where fine but still he is in the middle or on the cool side so i think i will lower the hot spot down i guss snakes are like people too they have there indavidual preferses.

my corn snakes dont like to grab the preay like the other ones they just down the damn things.

my ball python is VERY VERY active right after he eats and in the past all of his escapes have been right after feeding. i alwas wonder y he dosent want to sit and digest like my other snakes maby she is wored about her looks? i dont know

my tokays NEVER eat wile i am in the room. NEVER i have yet to see one eat. but i put food in the cage and the food disapers and there fat healthy and alive so i must be doing something right.

Jasmine,my water monitor likes to tenderize her PK mice from one end to the other before she'll start eating. I guess she likes 'em kinda squishy.

My corn snake was raised on frozen thawed mice from a hatchling. She also has never, even once, constricted. She just starts swallowing, too. My ball python, also raised on frozen thawed, always constricts, though.

She'll chomp and release down the length of the mouse's body.
Generally starting at the head or middle.

Montey my Spotted goes out of her way for attention. If I come into the room she'll peek her head out of the hide and then slither right up to where I would open her cage lid. As soon as she smells that it's me, wraps around my wrist...

Whereas with dad. She'll look at him and snap everytime he comes near. Yep, my baby is a real ladies snake!

My leopard geckos think they are crocs.
There are 6 in a 33 gallon (for reporduction).
And when I get in the room, they all stare in the air and wait for my fingers to come in and they all start snapping away trying to get my fingers (they prob think it's pinkies).

hehe

my beardies crack me up all the time my female has to be cuddled at all times when she's out if not she will continully nudge you with he head. and my boy has to be at the highest spot on you.

My female corn strikes her food as if she hasn't eaten in years(she's a very aggressive eater). and my boy he's as gentle as can be he slowly slithers to the food smelling it then slowly opens his mouth then guzzles it down. and once he has it in his mouth he picks it up and turns towards me or my boyfriend showing us how he eats. it's so cool to watch him eat.

all of my leos have differnt personalities it would take quite awhile to describe so i won't but they are deffintly individuals.

Well first off... my iguana Kiwi gives me kisses... or at least he used to, lol. Before he got all mean and aggressive hahaha. But I'm working on it. I used to just say "Gimme kiss" and pucker up my lips and he'd lick me (okay that doesn't sound right, but you get the picture... I hope).

My burmese python Shakira always sticks her head up and sniffs around until I pet her after I open the lid up. I'm sure it's probably just because she's looking for some food. But she always seems so excited to see me... and almost is always trying to find a way to escape. Everytime she does get out she just sits in the middle of the floor... just lays there... It's pretty funny.

My male boa Jabez, and black blood python Tabu get extremely nippy when they're hungry. They will bite and lash out at anything until they're fed and happily full, then they become total sweethearts again. Plus Tabu likes to sit in his water bowl a few times a week. Maybe just because he likes to soak and get his skin extra-hydrated.

Lastly, my savannah monitor Acco has to have a nice warm bath right after getting him out of his cage, or he becomes wild and unhandleable. After he gets all wrapped up a towel and dried off he can be a sweetie-pie... but to me only. To everyone else it's like "meeeeehhhhh!!!!" *chomp*. It's awesome! haha. He also just loves to grab his food, hold it there, wait til I'm not watching, then gulp it down. He hates to eat in front of anyone... it makes him uncomfortable. I've gotten him somewhat to the point where he'll just snatch it outta the cage and eat it there without worries.

I think all my herps have something cool about them, but those are the coolest and most noticeable out of all of them. It's so cool how each one has a personality of its own

My cornsnake Akasha comes out of her hide in the morning when my alarm goes of. She also comes out when i get home, and i find it difficult to get her to go back in her viv once she is out!

My ball python (Monty) will eat right out of my hand. Though I know most of you will probably say I'm stupid, I hand feed him without any type of protection. When feeding time comes I lift him out of his cage with one hand while dangling a mous in front of his face with the other. He take it right away and coils around it in my hand. Never been bitten doing this, nor have there been any close calls. He seems to know what my hand is and it's not food. I have had him for about a year now and haven't been bitten yet. So I guess it's safe. I'll feel like a dumb@$$ when I get bitten though.
He also seems to enjoy kisses. I like to give him a lil' kiss on the nose usually before putting him back in the cage. But now he seems to want them all the time. He will always stick his out out torwards my face when I'm holding him and lick my lips or nose. I find it's probably pretty rare that you get a ball python that is 100% not head shy in any way. He loves his kisses!
He also is weird in the fact that he has never escaped. He resides in a nice 20 gallon till he hits 3 feet. But I have never in all my time keeping him weighted down the top of the tank. He seems to like it there and has never managed to leave it. He gets out of it roughly 2 hours a day during handling and roaming time. But he seems content with that. It's just weird how I have to weight down my 22 inch corn's cage for fear of escape, but Monty just sleeps and never tried to push up the top. It would be all too easy if he ever tried. hmmmm.

Those are a couple of my herp's quirks. LOL, the anoles are crazy!

My big red foot will try to eat anything whether it be food, substrate, fingers, water bowls, other tortoises...anything. Except for the cuttlefish bone. He despises that with a passion.
