Girl being picked on??
I have a VERY large female gecko that keeps getting picked on by another smaller female gecko. I've tried everything even putting the larger one in about a week before the other. I just don't know what to do. I don't have another tank to put the mean one in right now. Does anoyone know what else I can try?? When I go to bed she starts chasing her and I tell her to stop it and she does but after I go to sleep she starts up agian (well I'm assuming by the looks of her tail). I'm starting to worry because the bigger's tail is atarting to get pretty chewed up. Right now I have her soaking because it does not shed right with all the bites. I'm even considering selling the other one, because I just don't have room to split them up. Can someone please give me some ideas.

Youch, sounds tough! Put the smaller one in a tupperware container and try to sell her or do something asap.

When ever I have a preggy female I seperate her from the others until she lays. I have had that same problem too. Just seperate her and after she lays wait a couple days to get up up to strength and re-introduce her. Works for me!

For a temporary solution you can insert a piece of cardboard in the middle of the tank to TRY and keep them separated until you figure out what to do. It'll be cramped for the geckos, and they'll each have to have a hide, water and food... but it's worked well with me in the past.

The only problem I have with a rubbermaid is that I have no way to heat the bottem. My room's in the basement so it gets kinda cold in there. I will hopfully get a tank with an UTH soon here. I'm hoping her tail will hold out untill then. Thanks for the ideas.

If you have to use the rubbermaid temporarily you can put a human heating pad under one side set on low, but if you don't have it set up to a rheostat don't leave it on 24/7. I've used them for a couple weeks on a timer for 10 hours a day without problems. You may want to keep it on mostly during the night if it getts too cold. It's not a permanent solution but it could help you out for a couple weeks till you could get another tank.

Wouldn't a human heat pad get too hot and melt the rubbermaid?? That's why I never used it.

I would find a way to separate them as soon as possible! that is too much stress on the one being picked on. couldn't u clip a heat lamp to the side of a rubbermaid container. or is it too small or shallow? because ive used larger rubbermaid bins for temporary enclosures and clipped heat lamps to the sides, shining down. just an idea.

not on the low setting. It's best to watch it though. But just think, if people can use heat tape or heat rope, then a human heat pad should be good too. I have used them a couple times in crises and have never had any melting. Just make sure you are using rubbermaid, or soft plastic and not that hard see through stuff. That may melt, not sure. I have only ever used them on rubbermaids, and never had any thing close to a melting. Just nice and warm bottoms. lol.

I just put it on the bottem of the rubbermaid outside or inside?? I'll just be using the heatpad at night anyway, I can use a small heat lamp for the day. Beauty says thank you to all of you

I use a human heat pad on my Rubbermaid and it works perfect. But put the heat pad on the outside.

Hmm well, it's already been basically stated. They need to be seperated somehow. If you don't want to sell one, why not just buy another rubbermaid container? They're only like $5... and it would be a good solution to your problem. Just a thought. Let us know how things work out. Also, if there is an open wound where the bigger one's tail is getting bitten, you need to put on some kind of antiseptic, try Benadine solution... just a tiny bit on the end of the tail will help keep it healed.

Human heat pads work great with rubbermaids. I have mine hooked up to a thermostat and I set it at 90 during the day and low 80s at night. It turns off once it reaches these temps which are not hot enough to melt plastic. Hope this helps.

I put the girl who's doing the picking in a different thing lastnight but in the big cage with part over the UTH so she didn't freeze. I'm getting another setup tomorrow. The question is who do I take out?? I have 4 leos in a I think about a 40-50g custom cage. It's only the 2 that have the problem, Spaz is picking on beauty. Now Beauty does have some sores (nothing bad not bleeding but just kinda scrapes, I'm not worried about them I'm putting neosporin on them) so should she be moved out or should I move Spaz?? Spaz only picks on Beauty and no one else picks on Beauty only Spaz.

I would move Spaz if i were u. If u move Beauty, is it possible Spaz will try to find someone else to pick on? That's why i would move Spaz, since Beauty gets along w/everyone anyway.
