Both retics can eat a tremendous amount of food, the average meal is 30-40 pounds of f/t rabbits (4or5) each, and I feed them at least every 2 weeks to keep them from getting snappy. I used to keep track of how much it cost to keep each animal for a year, and the bigger they are, it gets downright frightening doing the math. Keeping 6 burms, plus rocks and retics well fed could convert into payments on a pretty nice car

Wow, is it possible for a 22 foot retic to only be "nippy". I'd say he'd be down right engorging!!!

Long Retic

Lucas, I found that picture about 5 years ago on one of those stupid giant man eating snake sites. Other then the pic, I could get no info on it. If you notice there are 12 people holding it. The last 8 are shoulder to shoulder, but the first 4 leave about 6 to 10 inches between them. I estimate the snake to be about 26 feet long. If anyone seeing this has more info on this picture or the snake, I would love to hear from you.

That giant retic is a Sulawesi that is (I believe) still housed at the San Antonio Zoo. It was originally imported by Dave and Tracy Barker of VPI Pythons and at the time that pic was taken, the retic had been drugged for a physical. She was around 5 yrs old at the time and I recall her name is "Samantha". Someone I know is friends with a fellow that works at the San Antonio Zoo and mentioned a few yrs back that her diet consisted of 50-lb pigs. She was a little over 26 feet back then.

Sulawesi retics are reknown for being the fastest growing of all retics. They don't bulk up until they surpass around the 20-foot marker, whereas other retics will start to add girth around 16' (I have a pair of Sul's that are nearing 20' and are still slender).

Thanks for the information, are you breeding yours? How long did it take them to reach 20?
