My awesome Desert Horned Lizard! PICS

Here is a shot of him basking.

His face is turned towards me.

He was trying to cool off a bit while basking.

Here he is compared to my hand.

Hope you liked the pics!

Their a endangered species here in texas in all of the U.S so its illigal to keep them. Though I don't know why their everywhere I see at least 10 a day probly more. I think you can keep them if you bought them as a baby from a breeder or a pet store I'm not for sure. But I do know its illigal to kill them, catch them or keep wild caught. reply to what you know on this subject I would love to know more.

You are right CyberGhost, the Texas Horned Lizard is protected and illegal to keep. But this is a Desert Horned Lizard, a different and legal species. There are a few different species of Horned Lizard and as far as I know the Texas Horned Lizard is the only illegal one to own.

To Melly18, if you have a constant supply of Harvester Ants they are quite easy to keep. A 20L and a basking spot of 105ºF is all that is really needed.

The Desert Horned Lizard is the Phrynosoma platyrhinos calidiarum, the Texas Horned Lizard is the Phrynosoma cornutum
I use this little pic to help identify the little buggers lol

drawing is supplied by by Eric R. Pianka and Wendy L. Hodges.

Both species can be found here in Southern New Mexico and Game and Fish will get very upset if you catch the wrong one lol.

To Colonel SB, only the Texas Horned Lizard can shoot blood out of it's eyes. So I do not have to worry about that! lol.
