What chemicals are safe for treating mites?

I'm looking for an insecticide used on animals that is safe for treating cypress mulch that will be used for reptiles. I've read that trichlorfon is safe but can't find it. I have, however, found insecticides that contain permithrine (spelling?). Is this safe for reptiles? Let me know of other chemicals that you are aware of that I can use. Thanks to all who reply.

I use provent a mite. DO NOT SPRAY IT ON THE ANIMAL DIRECTLY! Read the directions about 3 times before you use it.
