Aimee loves to be off the ground!

When she was a hatcling she lived in a five gallon tank and always used to climb high in the branches and bask for hours...and hours...

then I moved her into a lower rubbermaid, and she would drape herself over the hides to be "higher" up. She escaped so I decided to give her a enclosure that would give her some height since she seems to enjoy it so much.

Sure enough, she started using this "snake climb" I made her the day after moving in.......

The temp is the same above and on the ground level hide, she just LOVES being an aboreal corn!

P.S. she better know I love her because I HATE using tanks now! Pain in the butt for snakes and hard to maintain!

my 11 month old snow corn seems to like climbing too.
Ive got an old mug-tree wedged in place.. never seen Chione actually on it but on many occasions she`s been seen resting on the glass ledges in the tank (its an old aquarium tank, complete with the glass ledges to support a drip tray) and the only she can reach is via the mug tree

Yours is not alone my female (Silver Sable)doesn't like to climb but boy does my little man(Havoc) hes always all over the place constantly he loves climbing up his tree, and down it and i have one of those cages that you push the lid in from the side and lock it and there is a little ledge up there that he used to love to climb on and sit there for hours. now that he is getting bigger its so funny to watch him try to climb on that ledge(cause he don't fit there no more). But he is learning to settle with his tree.

She doesn't really climb much though....like moving around. She finds a high spot she likes, and stays in it. For as long as possible! lol. Sometimes she does make a little climbing trip though! They are great snakes....

marisa what did you make that climb thing out of or can you buy one. Ive never seen something like that. I bet my boy would love something like that. He would play for hours.

And yes they are great snakes. and i hope to get plenty more when i get more room.

I just used some plastic fencing we had laying around...rolled into the cylindar...and then a butter dish happened to fit perfectly into the middle of it....I secured it with a piece of tape so she can't knock the cylindar over...and shoved a paper towel tube in there as you can see so she could have a reall high up place to hide. She LOVES tubes for hides and high spots, so you can imagine how often she has come out of there so far.....0!!!

its amazing what you can acheive with a little ingenuity
Chione is just 22" long atm, so kind of has ratehr a lot of space in her 3foot vivarium, which is good `cos its allowed me to create a fantastic array of hiding places... i`dpost a piccie but i dont have a digital camera.. yet !
a brief rundown.. starting at the hot end
4" oval water bowl (in hot end to increase humidity)
2 peices of cork bark provide climbing and hiding opportunities.
mid point in the tank is a ceramic hide and a 3" round water bowl
then plenty of smooth stones i had inmy aquarium some years ago. these surround a washing powder scoop which is partly buried inthe substrate providing a secluded shallow cave, then a mug tree with its base firmly buried under substrate (provides climbing opportunities and a platform for chione to reach those glass ledges at the top of the tank that corns love so much!)
then finally a cardboard tube (was a poster holder thing) with one end sealed up.
For a substrate, i use "mazy" which is a brand of corn-cob-chip based cat litter! Dust free, odourless, and DIGESTABLE in case of accidental swallowing.
All this gives a vey natural looking tank with lots of diffeent features to make Chione feel secure and happy AND everything is positioned so that Chione is visible from the front glass where evere she decides to go

You set up is very cool, you will find that the majority of north american rats snakes(Elaphe) are semi-arborial.

My corn likes to climb too but not so much that he needs an aboreal enclosure. I like the white climby thing...very creative
