going frog and snake hunting at a local lake tomorrow
im going to a lake tomorrow ot go look for leopard frogs,garter snakes,and Massuanga snakes. i hope to catch two of each and release them on my farm. i have built a pond out here for em and everything.hope everything goes as planned!

It is not a good idea to relocate snakes........ They usually wind up dieing....... If you find them take pics and leave them where you found them.......

Heed Gregg's advice. Relocation doesn't always work, even when done by biologists sometimes. Try to setup a good herp envrionment, and the herps will come by themselves.

I'm not sure what to think of your post. It sounds like there should be something drawn to a pond on a farm...no need to go collecting "Massuanga" snakes and the likes...but good luck finding two of each anyhow 
Imagine how rewarding it will feel to find you've helped create an environment that attracts snakes and frogs....and then compare that feeling to the knowledge that you've just marked a few pairs of beautiful animals for death by relocating them to an unfamiliar location.
Wait until July, and then tell us how many naturally occuring frogs you've found in your pond! Trust me on that! lol
But good luck field herping anyhow! Bring a camera, not a pillowcase!

hehe i wasnt planning on releasing them directly into the wild i was going to keep two of each and see if i can breed them...if nothing happens in a few weeks i will release them back to their homes

.. For the record Massasaugas are endangered animals; Meaning no collecting unless you hold a PSP or some other sort of permitation allowing endangered animals to be collected. Good luck at getting them too, I hear they are hard to obtain. As for relocating animals of any sort. I'm sure you'd need permits, especially if the are endangered animals and are hazardous to humans or other creatures. There's a reason why they aren't in that particular area. Leave it at that. By the way, you'd need permits to do anything with Massasaugas.
