Question Perfect Shed?

Well my columbian just had a perfect shed all in one piece both eye caps are visable on the skin... but his right eye looks dented still His last shed went horribly wrong. When I got him I had to soak him since he had skin stuck to him here and there. he didnt look like he had an old eye cap stuck there before. Should I worry about it or just leave it for next time?

I heard that if eye caps stay on for too long that they can blind your snake. I dunno if this is true or not. Ive also heard that a papertowel with baby oil can get them off if u rub 'em. Dont try this just yet, Im not sure if this is totally safe. Hopefully you can get those off! Good luck!

If both eye caps are intact on the shed skin then the dented eye probably stems from dehydration. Raising the humidity in the enclosure and giving soaks a few days a week should resolve the problem - we had a BRB that came to us in similar condition and with the appropriate temps and humidity and a few soaks, he is now in perfect health.

What kind of humidity does your snakes enclosure maintain? It should be in the vicinity of 50-65% or so. Much lower would lead to dehydration, and higher could contribute to respiratory issues or other illnesses.

If you don't know what the humidity is, you need to purchase a hygrometer (humidity guage) and put it in the cage. You can find decent dual zone thermometers + hygrometers for ~$20 US at places like Walmart and Kmart. This is what we use in all of our enclosures.

i heard somewhere that they use sellotape to get any resistant eye caps off but that sounds a bit dodgy to me ??
