Talking New Babies!!! (non-herp..)

I'm really, really excited about this!!!

Yesterday, as part of a belated birthday, a friend of mine loaned me all her old mouse equipment, because she knew how much I simply adored the ones I had seen at PetsMart. ^^

But that's not the end of it!

My sweet, wonderfuly boyfriend, Darry, took me up the same day, and bought me 2 little male mice! They're adorable! One, Teppic, is white with black spots, one patch right over his little beady eye. The other, Ralph, is white with Dark Brown blotches all over... ^^

They're so cute. I'll try and have some pictures. Does anyone else keep mice as pets?

I too Lost my Mind

Hi Nanashi,

I too lost my mind for a short while, I kept a mouse mostly due to the fact that it looked like a husky, we even named it Nanook (Well Matt actually named it).

I came to my senses on the weekend a fed it to the WhiteThroat.

BRIAN! You fed Nanook!?!?!?!? AWWW

*Greatly disappointed* That's the saddest thing I've heard... I can't believe you fed the husky mouse!

It's a sad day, indeed.

I wouldn't take care of pet mice as I already care for feeders but my roomate has two "adopted" mice she got from me about two years ago living in a habitrail.

I have had pet mice (Siamese) througout the time I have been breeding feeders. Our first two feeder mice (both boys) ended up being pets when the snakes went into their winter fast. They were great - quite intelligent (not as smart as rats) - trained them with cheerios, but smelly. I confine myself to females as pets now. The nicest thing about mice is that they won't jump out of your hands, once they are past the hopper stage. I also find they are much less likely to bite than gerbils or hamsters. They are so cute too. Congrats on your new pets.

Too bad about Nanook becoming a snack - he is a cutie, but such is life - especially once you have cleaned the mouse droppings out of the computer keyboard!

We don't keep any of our mice as pets, they're too bitey and not half as smart as the rats, there is one that we do like, we call her cutey and she has a lame foot but she tries so hard.

Hahaha! You crack me up!

I used to have pet rats...one of them had a stroke and used to run in circles and eventually after a few days I had to put it down.

As for the original question...I tried keeping breeder/pet mice for a year and they were too bitey for me. And stinky! Then when some would escape (due to my negligence) it was always a big pain to recapture them.

The females were always so nasty...I'd never keep mice again as pets!

Mine are very sweet, they've never tried to bit or anything. They'll crawl right into my hand and then sit there and be cute. I wanna teach them some tricks, but I'm not sure what yet.
