Watering system

What do you all use for watering systems, I bought a store one but it sucks.....was just hoping to get some ideas!

All i do is spray with warm water in the once in the morning and before i go to bed at night. When its time to clean the cage I put him in another and in the shower.

He is now about 5 years old and in perfect shape.

Oh geez, one of these days I'll buy myself some fancy automatic system! It would make my life so much easier with all the chameleons I've got. Anyone want to lend me some money?

For the time being, I mist the pygmy chams twice daily with one of those dollar store misters. I find they give a good fine spray that doesn't drown the little animals. For my bigger, arboreal species, I have one of those 4 gallon plant sprayers that I use twice daily. Best $25 I've ever spent, as I used to use the hand mister for all the chams. I would have such a sore wrist after watering all the beasts! For additional watering during the day, I use empty sour cream containers that have a pinhole in the bottom. I simply fill them with water, place them on top of the cage and let the water drip onto the plants.

Kewl....thanks, I was using just the old water bottle for all mine, but I went to the old pet store the other day and saw them using one of the drip buckets, so I figured I would give it a shot.....well it was only like 12 bucks and its the dumbest 12 I have ever spent.....it either dont drip at all or it runs a damn stream!

Welp thanks for all the advice....O and Trace I have been checking into the auto waters but right now the little critters are not making me enough money to pay for something like that!

Hi- Well this is my first post on this forum, I am a regular on kinksnake. I have 6 panther chameleons, they include a pair of WC Ambilobe panthers, a pair of CB Sambava panthres, and a pair of Nosy Be panthers. I use the Rainmaker JR. automatic misting system, and I love it so do the chameleons. It mists them 5 times per day every day with a very fine mist, and gives them the water they need and keeps up the humidity in the cage. I saw this website also where they use a plant sprayer, but add a valve to the water line that is digital, to allow for automated misting. That web site is http://www.barrs.com/spray.htm. Glad to help! Have fun, I am building 12' of outside caging for more chameleons right now, and plan on using an automatic misting system outside to, they are great!

I use the one from Cloudtops for the cage outdoors in summer, indoors it's the 3 gallon sprayer 3 times a day (more if needed), 20 minutes or so each time.

Those prices are way too high. Go to www.Berryhilldrip.com. We use several of their products and they work great. There is no minimum. Last order we placed was for 100 drippers and the cost was $17.00.

Let me try and give you some ideas and info as to building your own watering system. We have over 100 cages in our breeding facility and about 35 cages in our home, plus our outside cages.

You can use either your water pressure from the garden hose or use a pump. Pond pumps work ok for up to 20 nozzles as long as you don't have it lift the water too high.

Another choice is a water transfer pump(Harbor Freight-$25.00) this is what I use in our large facility. I used 1/2 plastic pipe for the main line, installed 1/8 brass fittings (.50 ea.)(drilled and tapped the plastic pipe)used 1/4 aquarium tubing and button drippers over each cage. Radio Shack for the timer. Water is stored in a 55 gallon barrel. Your animals may prefer warm water, so get an aquarium heater and put it in your holding tank.

Outside is about the same. However no pump, just water pressure. As for the timer I use a Melnor Electronic Timer. 2 "AA" batteries, fittings are supplied, so just attach hose. If you want warm water, consider getting 100 feet of the drip system hose from Home Depot. Just hang it in coils before it goes into your drip system over your cages. The sun will warm the water for you. You can get all the necessary parts to make this outside system in their irrigation dept.

The reason why I want the costing nozzle is because they spay a nice en gentle rain over the chameleon. The springlers I've seen on the webpage you suggested me will not be good because they will totally drop a shower on the chams.

Maybe I've not found on the site exacly wich misting nozzles you talking about. Please refer me the exact page on the Berry hill website.

I tried using misters and gave up. They plug up too easy, require too high a pressure for my pump. They worked great on the hose outside, once I found a filter that was fine enough.
