What is he?

well, this is my first snake. He was sold to me as a "columbian red tail"..I know there are snakes sold as those, but arent "truly"red tails. How can I determine what exactly he is?

and hes about 2 1/2 almost 3 feet long...how can i determine his approximate age?
Thanks

without seeing a pic and by what you said , id have to say its a common bci

and probably bout 1 year but there is no true way to tell the age unless you have the birth date

If it was sold to you as a columbian rtb...it is probably a columbian bci... Columbian bcc's do exist but are not common.

Very nice. A word of advice if I may. If you're using trees and limbs from outside It is always a good idea to clean them with bleach to kill anything that may be living on them. Just thought I would menthion just in case you had not already thought of it or done it already. I recently cut two limbs for my Emerald tank and I cleaned them with steel whool and it turned my tub black.
Congrats on a great looking snake!

Thanks for all the advice. I found the log and peeled what was left of the bark off, sanded it down, left it outside for a few days in the sun. I thought of bleaching it, but I didnt think it would be nessecary, but now I know it will be, and next time I will be sure to do it right.
