quick Question!! 60 watt bulb?

ive found a lamp that i can use for a leopard gecko tank, but it only takes 60 watt bulbs, would that be enough to create the right amount of heat?
cheers

It depends, Rach. 60 watt bulbs are fine in some of my tanks, but are insufficient or too much in others.

There are cheapo reptile dome lights with plastic fixtures that only support 60/100 watts, while those with made of ceramic can withstand up to 250 watts.

If your leopard gecko tank currently uses 60 watt bulbs or less, then I would say that the lamp is suitable, if you are currently using higher wattage bulbs, then nope..

Hope this helps.

Check out home depot. I think even their 5 inch domes hold 100 watts.

If you like the look and/or functionality of that particular lamp you can always go to Home Depot or similar and buy a new socket and cord for it, it's cheap and pretty easy to do. That way you can get a ceramic socket that's rated for all sorts of power.

I would NEVER use on of those plastic fixtures......... even with the recomended wattage bulb. I seen one melt before all over a poor little turtles shell..... lucky for him he was a turtle, cuzz if it was any other animal without a shell it would have been badly burned. This was with a 60 watt regular house bulb.
