Herping in Central TX - Apr 13th (pics warning)

I went out herping this last weekend with a bunch of friends... I got completely skunked, I didn't find anything myself, but my friends were more than lucky enough for me.

We came across three western coachwhips, a pair of them doing their job to further the species.

A monster TX coral snake (on the right), 35" when most of the corals we see are 24" or less (on the left). This coral was the only animal brought home from our trip - aside from a little gulf coast toad.

And a western diamondback, that was less than impressed at being dug out from under his tin.

As well as a nice 3' prairie king, mm - musky.

Gearing up to be a pretty good year.

Ham

Wow! You found many snakes! And I thought that Black Racer I found was cool!

Are those gloves like coral snake proof and they cannot bite through them? Those would be handy to have here in FL. I've found a few Corals around my house here.

Everything was found in the vicinity of Austin, TX - sorry no hookups, if you want one, come on down and we'll go out looking.

The gloves are lined welder's gloves, I wouldn't exactly call them bite proof, but I would imagine from something like a coral they would work pretty well. Certainly no guaranteed protection though - but its not like you can hook a coral, they are most uncooperative in that sense.
