Suriname or Bcc x Bci????

Recently, Pete pointed out that Surinames usually have widows peaks down their saddles, as opposed to the typical round saddles of the BCI's...Beth seems to have the round saddles, but the characteristic colouration (Pink, etc.) of a Suri.....Any opinions...? She was sold to us as Suriname.

Suri's or not, red tailed don't have to have any peaks to indicate their origin. Many people have been mistaken for years by labelling Suri's with the nicer peaks when in fact Guyans or Suri's can exhibit the look. The same applies to pink coloration, any Bcc or Bci can have varying degrees of pink in them.

That doesn't look like a cross IMO but unless you know the history on the animal for sure then it's really just an educated guess. Nice looking animal nun the less..

I dont know whether to be offended by the name or honoured...lol.......
seems there is a bit of suri in her by the markings, buy I have a BCI with the same widowing....who knows. They are all very nice in their own ways.

Some bci have peaks, some bcc do not. You can't count on the peaks to tell the difference. She looks bcc to me You could always do a scale count...

We're not too concerned...we love her just the way she is.....I was just curious as to whether Bcc and Bci were distinguishable by saddle peaks alone! Thanks for all you help guys...

I have two Guyana sub adults and have seen numerous post off BCC and BCI, and the one thing Ive seen is that origins and genetics seem to be the important factor in BCC's and BCI quality. Many boa breeders in the states are cranking out BCI like a puppy mill no regard for color or health.. If you can see the parents it helps you to understand what your snake may look like as it ages. Most of my new snakes are purchase from boa breeders who are working on improving the color and qualtiy of the boa. They cost a couple bucks more but the end results can be awsome.
Your suri Looks to be and excellent speciman. Were you able to see the parents?

He's already starting to orange up like his parents.
SO if your in to boa's try and find ones that you can see the parents, this will indicate what that next four year investment will recover for you..

apart from the widow peaks ther are several other clues that can give u a chance to guess what sub-species u have.
1) tha hatchet in front of the eye, in B.c.i it is faded whereas in true B.c.c it is heavily darkened
2) the arrow lines that run down from the beginning of the neck to the tip of the nose on B.c.i is interupted by a median line that expresses itself between the eyes. on a B.c.c it has no mediation.
3) the tail colouration of a B.c.c is a deep red / nearly purple
