Surinam Boa c.c.

Can anyone here who have a b.cc from surinam tell me something about their temperament?

on some sites i read they are nice and easy to handle and nearly ever agressive, but on other sites i read they can be quite agressive...im lost!

ps. i mean 100% pure surinam boa's..no ssp!

Ours is the sweetest snake we own...never hissed or bitten. But it is still young, only 3.5 feet.

The WC Suri a friend has is the Devil Incarnate. Loves to bite. It really depends on if the snake is WC or CB. Most CB will be quite friendly.

When you say pure 100% Suriname boa no ssp..... what exactly do you mean? Guyanan, Suriname, Trinidad and Peruvian are ALL bcc. Maybe you are referring to no crosses? You could pull a bcc out of Guyana and it may look like a 'typical' Suriname. Boas don't follow political boundaries.

What about babies of wild caught? I can buy one that is a baby from a wildcaught lady in surinam...they capture the lady, wait untill she drops the babies,then let her go again and sell the babies ...

You would have better luck buying CB and it is much preferred. The WC female needs to have her babies in the wild. Buying only CB helps support the wild population.

I have been told they have overpopulation...it's legal too...(from what they told me)

Interesting..that is something I haven't heard. I certainly hope it is true and not these "farmers" trying to get more money from raping the wilds.

I read about it in a pretty well know book over here in Holland about terraria...so I guess its ok.

I also get the documents with it so i guess its legal

a snake is a snake wether it be a suri boa a burm python a corn snake I can work with all of them it's not can it be handeld it a mater of how do you go about it properly you realy need to think is a baby boa bite as bad as ppl say it is. And in your other thread you posted a link I took the time to reed it and it said that a suri will only grow up to 10 feet witch is wrong a suri can get quit BIG

Correct, but i read they usually grow about 10-12 feet...average that is

i read about 18 feet ones too but those seem to be exeptions..

I have a wild caught suri (rescue if you must know,before the debate of my guilt starts) he has his good days and bad days.The first 6 months were bad,he still has a tude now but he is very managable(I will never fully trust him) This was acheived through a lot of work with him and some painfull reminders of how slow I learn things.I would reccomend to you buy captive born as you will have an easier time interactin with the boa.A wild caught neonate is gonna be a 50 50 split it will be ok or it won't.Surinames do not get to 18' anacondas do They can hit 10-12' but look for an average for females of 8-9' and for males 7-8 feet.I find suris to be the best of all the B.c.c.I will warn you they are prone to regurgeatate if fed too much too big a prey item,and too often.Make sure to have proper temps humidity and such.I would also have a good vet ready to treat the Boa for parisites when you get it cause chances are it will have some(put a few hundred extra away for that)I hope it all works out for you in the long haul.

I already got the cage ready and im experimenting every day with the tempatures and humidity now..i got a digital thermometer which remebers the max en min of both and of course shows current. I also got a thermostat connected with a red lamp which keep the cage 21+ degrees always, also during the night. It will turn the lamp on whenever it drops below 21 degrees and turn it off again when its above, so i guess i will be able to get the perfect klimat in there.

Btw, whatst he perfect humidity for boa's? I read 70% but i read "a very high humidity" as wel..i guess like 70-80%?

I would not take that advice if I were you. First off it is the B.C.I that is 7-12 feet(depending on the sex) I have worked with enuf of them to know, anacondas hit the 23-26 foot mark and it is not unheard of a B.C.C reaching 15 feet and it is more commen then you think (hip). B.C.C is a big boa and not to be taken lightly just cause it has the word boa in it. fierfoz you said you could choose a B.C.I also not to be rude to you in any way but you should get that first they are a bit easier to care for the size is beter to get started with and the chances of geting a nasty one are slime not saying you will not get a nasty I have yet to come across a well fed well taken care of nasty B.C.I but that is just me man there is nasty cornsnakes out there for that mater but seriusly handel a 7-9 foot boa then come and tell us how it was and then add a good 5 feet extra dont for get boas pythons anacondas there not fat... pond for pound it is almost all muscule and there are even stronger if they were wild caught they had to kill all the things they eat there not spoield with pre kill'ed stuff us humans have. That is all I have to say about that at least now you will never be abel to say you never knew and we never told you.

I know suries are great looking but get informed and I mean realy informed chanlenge ppl on this site about what they say dont just eat every thing that is said there is some ppl that like to be pretend herpers and will say any thing for a post and hip is NOT one of them we have difrent views and difrent sorsuses of info thats all but since I was 6 I loved giant reptiles there is ppl hear that have owned them since they were 6 but I was not one of them I was stricly books for at least 10 years (my mom hates them) whenI was 17 I got my first herp I was 18 I qualified to work in a zoo I am now 20 and raising 2 boas for breeding projects just so I can say i did it and I am reciving 2 retics in a few monts it took me for ever to find a reptuabel dealer for a good price and then close the deal but I love big snakes and it is all I know I worked with a 12 foot anaconda and let me tell you I would just imagine another 10 feet on her and I was drouling be cause I cant wait to see such a big animale and be abel to say I played a big part in its life so ya now I am realy go shut up but if you like chating large constrictor or need info give me a shout if I cant help you I will help you find who can. later
