I'm just wondering since I got a desert kingsnake recently, it's now 24" long and I would like to know how old could this snake be? Anyone have the answer?

Burmies, no offense but you are constantly answering questions with a guess or "I dont know" I really don't think thats fair to people who come here for a decent answer. Adult Desert Kings can reach up to 5 feet, so telling this person their 24 inch snake is 5 years old could be VERY far off.

Anyways to answer your questions Desert Ambush, a Desert King can grow to 5 feet or so. BUT all snakes grow at different rates, your snake could have been "starved" or stunted. Where did you get this snake?

If you got it from a well known breeder, it is probably around a year. But again, all snakes are different. Some coule reach 24 in a year, some can't. So unless you ask the birth date where you got him from, you can't know for sure.

I seriously, HIGHLY doubt he is five years old,and like I said if I had to guess I would say around a year or so. personally. JMHO.

If it's captive bred it could only be one year old, but as Burmies said, it could be older if wild caught.

I disagree with it possibly being older if it's wild caught. A snake in the wild, being stunted by not feeding enough wouldn't possibly be able to survive the rigors of being in the wild. Especially a 5yr old 2ft desert king.

IMO, it's probably 1-2yrs old. Keep in mind rare exceptions occur in captivity where a 6yr old snake is only 2ft. I repeat, rare.

Vanan I was actually thinking the same thing. Even in a severe case of captive neglec, I wouldn't think a snake would evne make it to five years. But I am/wasn't sure.

Ok, I admit, I thought Burmies knew more than I did for some reason so sort of went along with him...I'm pretty sure it would only be a yearling at oldest since deserts get around 5 feet dont they? That is my 100% opinion, no influences lol. And from now on, I won't assume.

I'd go with the others and say it's probably an '02 hatchling. You'd pretty much have to "try" to keep a Desert King older than that shorter than 24".

I would say its at least 50 years old!!! Maybe even 100 ........you may have the oldest desert king known to man!!
