Question Breeding Kenyans and Rosies

I am interested in getting into Rosy or Kenyan Sand Boas. I understand that they produce an average of five offspring at a time. My question is: How many times will a female reproduce in a year? Moreover, how many times is it safe for a female to reproduce in a year?

Thanks for any info!

Scott

Keep in mind kenyans are boas, they are live bearers, they have long gestation periods. I think you are looking at once a year reproduction. You can't double clutch them like egg layers.

I don't know much about breeding kenyans, so I can't give you any input there. Rosies however have a gestation of 120-140 days on average, you must also take into consideration the brumation period (3 months is recommended), and the breeding time, and preparation for all of the above Once you add in a period of rest your years over

The above posts are accurate, but Kenyans produce more offspring than Rosies. I have 23 babies out of 16 year old female in 02. She also had several slugs, so probably 30 is actually possible , but extreme. A dozen is typical.
I've been breeding rosies since 1986 and never have had a litter bigger than 5. 3 or 4 is normal.
As indicated by the others, then never double clutch! One litter a year, is it, and they'll skip years if they don't have enough weight.

They only breed once a year.
