Water-based stain

Hey, we're building a chameleon cage today, and of course, my mum wants it to be stylin' to fit into our living room! So after building it, we're going to be staining it... We're planning on using a water-based stain by Minwax from Home Depot and are just wondering if there's going to be any problems with that?

Thanks!!

Kate & Dad

PS - We'll post pictures of it being built & and the final product!

Either Minwax Water Based Wood Stain or Minwax Accents is fine, go for it!

Just remember to post pictures when it is done.

I would suggest gel stain, it is extreamly easy to apply and you don't have to worry about having it come out uneven.

Thanks for the suggestion

We're going to stick with the water based stain, we don't have a problem with application, it's just the "toxicity" of the substance... since this stuff we have is alright [and since we've bought it lol] we'll just finish off with it!

The cage is so awesome, this is going to be one happy cham

You'll have to make sure you let us see what it turned out like.

The water based stain is great as far as it being non toxic. However, you may want to consider a couple of coats of varnish as well otherwise, poop, water etc. will stain the wood and soak into it as well. The varnish will make it much easier to clean.

There are varnish / stain combinations, if this is what you're using, you'll be fine.

I see no problem with that as long as you wait a few days after to let the fumes ware off. Then there should be no problem.
