Where to put 'em...

Ok, I have wondered this myself, and have been asked a few times, is it bad to have reptiles in your bedroom? Is it a better idea to have them in the living room, entrance way, garage, basement, hallway, bathroom, closet, attic, inside walls, etc... or even an entire room for them? What do you guys think?

mine are all over the place... But soon ill have them all together in one room.

We used to have our snakes scattered, but we now have them all in the same room. When we had our snakes scattered it was easy to spot them having sheds, etc, now we miss a shed in progress because they're in their own temperture controled room.
How ever we used to have to chase the cats off the tanks because they'd like to sleep on them due to the heat. Frankly I think having them in their own room is safer for escapes, how ever you can miss important observation times.

depends on the species and whether there are any illnesses etc or natural stress from being wild caught etc.
Usually low traffic areas work the best for all, in keeping stress down, especially if they don't need extra stress from all the humans being around and moving a lot.

It is a good idea to have a quarentine area, away from all the others for new arrivals and ill or suspected ill herps.

If there are other pets in the dwelling, then it may be bestto have them in their own room, so that curious kitties and rambunxiuous puppies won't have a chance to do any damage, such as stressing them or knocking over the setups.
A room to themselves, with a lockable door , or away from other pets is also a good idea if you have an escape artist, to lessen the odds of the other pets harming or just outright eating it.

Thanks for the advice... I only buy CB, or, if I can't find CB, a LTC of 2 years at least, and garunteed healthy and parasite/disease free... There isn't a lot of concern with other animals, I have one cat, but she runs and hids when (not if, when

) a few of my pinhead crickets escape... She is terrafied of mealworms, too! but anyway, I still excersise EXTREME caution with her... he cant even go into the rooms that they are in if I'm not in there, at that time... I am really wondering about keeping herps in the bedroom, if that is unhealthy for me or herps at all (more than other places) since it is rarely trafficked, although it does have a commercial area induce twilight (if thats the word I am looking for) because of the damned stores they ripped down the houses behind us to put up... We really need another pawn shop here, we have 4 now within a 5 minute walk.
Yeah, anyways...

i keep mine in the bedroom, cuz its generally the quietist place in the house! and when you use our bedroom your more than likely gonna be asleep...well that might not be true for some people

and its nice to watch nocturnal animals come out and play, when you can't sleep!
id rather not keep bugs in my room! what if they got out and decided to nest in your pillow?!?! eeeeeeh!!!!

I'd rather not think of like 500 baby mantises crawling over my pillow, thanks... lol
but I want to move all my herps into my room, my mom says its unsanitary, and I will get sick, but If its fine, then they'ed love my room more than the hallway...

I keep all my reptiles in one room. Then I can heat that room and not have the whole house to warm. It also makes it easier at cleaning and feeding times.

Well I used to have a dining room, but now it is the herp room...close to the kitchen, easier to maintain.

Well If you keep the kind of snakes I keep, they should all be in the same room...... I have to keep them in a locked escape proof room that only I have the key for....... I also have a big walkin closet on the other side of the house that I converted into a quarentine room for new arrivals...... It is also locked and escape proof......

I don't have much a choice... I have to keep all my herps in my bedroom with me (with the exception of my iguana who runs amuck in the house with the dogs). There is certainly nothing wrong with it. Come summer however I will be down in the basement and have an entire room to devote to herps, and my bedroom will serve as the quarantine area.

Well, I think I pretty much have every room i the house covered, other than the kids rooms, and the bathroom. Incubators, and different species are in several rooms depending on temp in the house, and the herp room if pretty much stuffed.....time for a bigger house....lol....

I'm not allowed to keep more than 1 herp at a time (that's going to change, however... once I get another tank...) So I keep it in my room - don't want my dad's idiot friends to bug the poor thing all day, plus, I can lock the cat out.

I keep mine in the rec room of our basement. My room is in the basement too so I walk past them about a million times a day. Im not allowed to keep them anywhere else, so it makes heating a pain, but we manage
