Quick question from a beginner

So I am planning on getting a ball python soon and I plan to have it in a bin and I was wondering if anyone has any heat mat suggestions because my room is fairly cold 60-65 degrees fahrenheit and I don't want a mat that is not sufficient for that room temp thx

Re: Quick question from a beginner

You will probably need two heat sources for the bin, and probably two thermostats. The heat mat should only be under about 30% of the floor, no more than half. Several people here recommend Ultratherm but you can use models made by any of the big retail companies. That heat mat will create a basking space. It will not raise the temperature of the tub, which needs to be raised to at least the low 70s on the cold side.

You can raise the ambient temperature with a heat lamp or CHE directed at the lid of the enclosure from above, attaching heat cable to the bottom of the lid and placing some insulation on top, etc.

Both sources need a thermostat because you will have a very hard time using two heat sources and getting them to balance properly. Allowing the under tub heater to go uncontrolled could cause burns and allowing the other heater to go uncontrolled could cook/dehydrate the snake to death.
