I'm a hooker!!
My very first snake hook just arrived in the mail. It's a wee bit bigger than I expected, but I guess I'll get used to using it. Any tips?

Learn to use it I think I am up to about 15 or 20 hooks right now. Got to have the most used ones int he hot room, a few outside the hot room, scattered around the hot room so there is always one near, and of course a few in my car There is no substitute for a good hook and knowing how to use it.

I bought it for about $8 off of ebay. I love ebay!! I'm not sure what kind it is, but it's wood-handled and very sturdy. I bought it for the larger boids I'm planning on buying this summer, and I think I need a smaller one for my BPs. It's 24", so using it for a juvi BP is a little bit of overkill, you know?
Hots, hmm. I've thought about keeping them in the future, but unfortunately, tha's not an option for me. I'm going to school right now to work in child care, and will probably end up running day care out of my home. Their are two many problems there.
I'd love to find a hot keeper in my area to work with, though, so at least I can get the experience!

The cases of salmonella from reptiles are so low as to be a joke. Chicken, cats and dogs, and pet birds pose a MUCH higher risk of salmonella.
As for hooks, we bought a midwest one from Scales Zoo and we're VERY HAPPY with it. WE got the standard one and now we're going to get the mini one. Hooks are great!
