Question Carpet Python won't eat

Hi. I purchased a IT Carpet Python 2 1/2 weeks ago and he won't eat. Ive tried frozen live and fresh kill. Ive tried feeding in his habitat and in small feeding habitat once. I've tried feeding with tongs hand and leaving all but live feeder in habitat for an hour. His habitat has basking area of 90 degrees and cool area of 75 degrees. I'm at my wits end.😰 Suggestions are Extremely Appreciated!!!

Re: Carpet Python won't eat

I would wait a week and try again. It sounds like you're offering too often and with no consistency.

Once you offer, if he refuses wait at least 5 days. Offering too often only stresses the snake and leads to more refusals. But stick to what he was eating before you got him.

Feed in his enclosure.

But the main thing is to just leave him alone for a week. No handling, no offering food. Just water changes or spot cleaning as needed only.

How old is the snake?

Honestly Im not sure how old he is exactly. He is a juvenile. I was told he was fed fuzzies. I appreciate your advice!!! It's been 3 weeks and he refused a live fuzzy after waiting another 5 days. I will be consistent with food type from now on. The reptile store I go to were the ones that kept suggesting different food.. I'm heavily considering taking him to a vet.

Unfortunately, pet store employees are very often uneducated, under trained and pushed to sell. So try to learn from more reliable sources.

Just double and triple check your husbandry, make sure temps are dialed in.
No handling at all until he's eating consistently.
Be consistent and don't over offer.

As long as the animal isn't losing weight I wouldn't worry about a vet. There's likely nothing wrong, health wise, and it'll just take some patience and consistency.
